As you know, I am an advocate for non-animal produced milk. I make almond milk already. However, I prefer hemp milk more since it is packed full of nutrients including calcium and anti-inflammatory omegas. Omega 3 promotes heart health, whereas Omega 6 is great for the metabolism, skin and hair, all of which I’m certainly trying to improve.
Following a lifestyle low in animal protein (everything except fish, seafood and chicken), I sometimes feel like I may not be getting enough protein. Not only do hemp seeds contain these omegas and amino acids, they are rich in protein with 100 grams of hemp seeds containing 37 grams of protein.
The need to make my own hemp milk arose when I decided I wanted pancakes for breakfast last Sunday. I considered almond milk, but I only had a handful of almonds left and I preferred to eat them, to be honest. Also, it would be done in much less time as hemp seeds require no soaking whatsoever.
Ingredients
1 cup Hemp Seeds
2 cups bottled water
1 tsp Madagascan Vanilla Extract (alcohol free)
What you will need
Blender
500 ml bottle or mason jar for storing
A pyrex jug
Instructions
I added the hemp seeds and water to my Tefal Blendforce and blended them on the highest speed to get the milk. After that, I strained the milk into the jug using my large milk nut bag. I stirred in the vanilla extract and agave nectar before pouring all the milk into the 500 ml bottle and storing it in the fridge. Voilà. Creamy nutrient packed vegan hemp milk.
Enjoy!
