Feeling overwhelmed lately? Trust me, you’re not alone. I was meant to come back from my birthday getaway and come post all the fun going ons from my vacay, but oh no, here we are.

It feels like the whole world is going through something right now. I often find myself longing for a time when responsibilities were fewer, decisions were simpler, bills weren’t so expensive, and the cost of living wasn’t so high. A time when misunderstandings were rare, and the people around us felt kinder.

Today has been highly emotional and very very overwhelming so I wrote a post and decided to share it with you all jewels.

God has been good to me, He afforded me another year and He did exactly what He said He would do. I thought forty won, with all its challenges, trials and chaos. But with them came resilience and overcoming, all as a result of my continued faith in The Almighty. As much as I expected this, it’s still deeply disappointing. To all my friends and family in 🇺🇸 who yearned for real change, I stand with you. Thinking hard about when I’ll visit again now that this man is back in power. The country feels overshadowed by the return of someone who’s let down so many, disregarded women’s rights, and demonstrated the power of misogyny. His empty promises feel like a future being faked—a facade masking his true intentions. Feeling disappointed and heartbroken for those who must endure his staged antics once more.

You gave it your all, Kamala; you put up a good fight. But as always, few are willing to set aside their ego to see a woman as president.

And to the Black folks out here claiming that women only wanted a female leader to resolve ‘mother wounds,’ perhaps consider the ‘father wounds’ that may have led to trauma, normalising abuse. We’re all working on something, and no one should shame another for wanting to see a Black woman on top for a change.

No matter how difficult things may feel right now, there is always hope for growth, healing, and new beginnings. Mental health like physical health is a journey, and as much as you may hit rough terrain, you have a chance to see beauty along the way 🌅🦋. Remember each day offers a chance to move forward from a low place.

World Mental Health Day 🧠 is a reminder to pause and reflect on your mental health journey. I’ve shared on here the challenges I’ve faced, from the toll of chronic health issues to the pain of friendship and family betrayal, work stress, the weight of anxiety and depression.

Through it all, I found strength by building a chosen family and finding support in my church community. Through these God-ordained connections I have been reminded that He is my source of light and that I’m never alone. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1 emphasises how in times of mental or emotional distress, God is always there to provide strength and protection. We can turn to Him as our constant source of help when we feel overwhelmed.

Let’s keep breaking the stigma and seek out the support we all need. I advocate for therapy. I advocate for self-help through journalling. I advocate for seeking help in scripture. I advocate for speaking your truth, setting boundaries and never neglecting your individual needs. Healing is a lifelong journey. Don’t give up when times get hard, you’ve got this and God’s got you 🙏🏾💚.

Yesterday I was recalling my love for cashews and craving some cashew nuts. When I was little, you used to always know when I would’ve gone and eaten the ripe cashews from the tree I used to scope out from my bedroom window. Maybe it’s because they were yellow, but I just loved eating the fruit. One thing about cashews, they would stain your clothes if the juice dripped onto them. I’d sneakily eat the fruit and keep the pile of ‘handles’, as I liked to call them, to extract the nuts by ‘pachin’ them with Miss Julia later. When you got home from work, I’d come back inside from playing in the garden after school and you’d ask if I had eaten any cashews. I’d lie and swiftly say ‘no’. Of course you’d already seen the stain on my clothes and would just laugh 😆 as I fussed to collect your heavy suitcase and carry it upstairs. You never punished me for my little lie. That’s how I know I was truly a daddy’s girl.

In much later years, Easter 2011, André and I decided to treat you and Mummy to a lobster dinner at Shangri La. You were not impressed with us having to wait a full 4 hours for this dinner to arrive. I know you were fed up but just didn’t want to disappoint us and have us go home to eat something lovely Tamba would’ve prepared. I do wonder if they had to go catch a live 🦞 that night. Your face said it all. Utterly fed up.

James said to me recently that he doesn’t remember having any conversations with you. I had to remind him of how much like you he is, especially days after your passing, when he used to comfort his Nana.

Daddy, you were kind, patient, loving, empathetic and extremely considerate of how others felt. Thank you for instilling in me these values and for always knowing what to say in every situation.

Cheers 🥂 to you today Daddy. A glass of rosé coming up.

There comes a time when you must protect your peace by taking a step back from those who consistently treat you poorly, especially when they refuse to take responsibility for their actions. Unexplained distance isn’t about holding grudges or avoiding confrontation—it’s about prioritising your well-being in the face of relentless negativity and unaccountability.

When someone refuses to acknowledge the harm they cause, no amount of explanation or discussion will change their behaviour. They may deflect, deny, or even blame you for their mistreatment. In these situations, the healthiest choice is to create space. This distance allows you to reclaim your emotional energy, free from the cycles of manipulation or hurt that unaccountable people often perpetuate.

Taking this step isn’t easy, and it might feel uncomfortable at first. However, it’s a powerful act of self-respect. You’re sending a clear message—to yourself and others—that you will no longer tolerate being treated with disrespect. You’re choosing to remove yourself from an environment where you’re not valued or treated with kindness.

This unexplained distance isn’t about causing drama or seeking revenge. It’s about quietly reclaiming your life, surrounding yourself with those who uplift and respect you. Sometimes, the best response to toxic behaviour is to simply walk away, allowing yourself the space to heal and grow in the absence of their harmful influence. Your peace of mind is worth more than any explanation you could give.

Grateful for this insight. My self-work is relentless and lifelong. I owe no one who mistreats me dondo — nada, nothing, zilch. I hope you prioritise yourself too.

Hi jewels. I think I have posted twice on my feed in the last 6 months and this journey has been nothing short of transformative. I didn’t intentionally do this but God positioned me in a place where I had no choice but to sit in deep self-reflection. I removed the distractions of daily conversations and found the space to reflect on my thoughts, emotions, and experiences, thus gaining an understanding of my true self.

I’m so grateful I can look inward and see what about me is good and what needs working on. I began to see with better clarity things that have always been right in front of me. Red flags 🚩 I turned amber in myself and in others. Habits I engaged in which should’ve ceased a while prior. Experiences and toxic spaces I sat in for far too long that held me back. Faking it in these places to just maintain the peace highlighted unhappiness, self-criticism and self-loathing; all of which at the crux of it all aren’t even who èsjé truly is. What a journey! I loved it, it was necessary and I will do it all again in a heartbeat. Thank you Lord 🙏🏾.

For those that take my silence personally, perhaps you should try deep self-reflection sometime. It will highlight who your true self and people are. They had zero judgments and scrutiny on my time off reflecting. They just supported without questioning how.

It’s another Father’s Day and this one happens to be on the Day of the African Child and Eid al-Adha. I know how much you loved all things Africa specifically. Even though you were Christian, you had no issue celebrating every occasion with your Muslim friends too. One of the multitude of things I love about you. Wi ɔl na wan. Today, I dedicated it to having a slow day, with church and then servicing your watch. I keep meeting versions of you in the beautiful people I’ve met recently. Spoke with Bal and Lord knows he is wise beyond imagination. He is dedicated to growth and the healthy journey through life, similar to mine. I recall all the words of affirmation he gave you that last Monday you spent with us. He’s told me “that every moment shared with loved ones is a celebration”.

That got me thinking about the quote you once told me about not giving people a reason to disappoint us. I realised ‘people’ has been me at some point. I have been breaking my own heart incessantly by being so sad at times because you’re not here in the physical realm. Choosing joy is all I can do moving forward because that’s how you spent your life, enjoying it, travelling, being free and happy. As much as I miss you, I know you’re still here watching and directing my moves. God knows you have literally directed me to Him, because if there is one thing you were, it was faithful. I am forever inspired by you Pops.

Thank you for raising me to be the woman of substance because what I saw in you was a father who knew what was right, who could not be easily influenced. What can I say, Amsterdam really superseded my expectations. You all know I’m partial to a good beach holiday, but this city break was everything. Quick update. As you know the U.K. is in a shambolic cost of living crisis with Boris finally doing the right thing and skeddadling. Wi gɛt nyu PM naw. Na Gɔd wangren no wetin in de kam wit but her first task was to bury Lizzy. And our dear Sierra Leoneans decided to take this year to create uproar and strife amidst these worldwide crises. A taya wit wi pipul. You understood them much better than I do. They’ve shown their hand many times to me this year. How did you cope? Wish I could hear your voice and views on all that’s gone on in our usual Sunday convo today, but alas, it isn’t to be.

Thank you so much for that dream the other day. You were both Wise and a Warrior. I know that those same qualities were instilled in and will thus be birthed from me, sooner or later, when it works in my favour. Everything I need to know is unfolding before me and I am so happy we had that type of a bond. As in Psalms 94:19, you were my consolation in times of anxiety and you brought me joy. I’m grateful you still do so from beyond this realm.

Dearest #Daddy,

The tears fall just as badly as they did on that fateful Friday in 2016. I figured it’d feel better at some point soon but I was greatly mistaken. Just so happens that your memorial falls on a Friday too this year. Talk about tracing back my steps. My heart is heavy and I know it’s because of all the love I have for you.

Considering you’re now 6 years settled in the heavenly realm, you’re fully aware Aunty Flo left us in my birthday, then Uncle Mac too, suddenly. And now Aunty Remie too left last month. I just know they won’t be lonely having you there to take care of them, being your witty self whilst cracking endless jokes.

I’m more than certain you know 👑 Lizzy transitioned too yesterday. Knowing you, you’re probably doing what you do best by being the perfect advocate when she faces up to Princess Diana. With you there I know that there wouldn’t be any ‘heavenly kus kas’ but instead a peaceful and forgiving reunion. 😂

This year has been another trying one for me and oh have I missed you and your wisdom. The eyes really changed my outlook on life, literally. I know I pulled through because of your protection. I also couldn’t make good on that promise I made you in 2012. I was close though but I know God has a bigger and more divine plan that I cannot yet comprehend.

I pray so much that I can give just a fraction of the goodness that you did to others. You lived your life in service to others, you never saw creed, colour or class. You were a selfless human being who truly cared for everyone you came into contact with. This I adored the most about you. Thank you for the love, support, memories and for leaving me with the best gift that I’ve ever known, you gave me purpose Daddy. I will continue to push forward in that vein because you were my true inspiration.

In last night’s dream, I was telling two little girls about you JBJJ. As long as I have breath, I will let everyone I meet know how much of a special person you were.

Afternoon jewels. Last weekend as a vibe. Sunday was the highlight for me. Getting back to my old ways of exploring London and being artsy. Started at the @vamuseum seeing #africafashion. A fantastic curation but disheartened I didn’t see one Sierra Leonean designer there. I must change this.

Ended up hanging with beautiful @coco_queen, @iamterryq_ & @mickeyscratch at a double birthday celebration later on. What a lovely day.
