One of my biggest cravings when I was on the alkaline lifestyle is bread. However, bread was not allowed because it contains yeast.
The aim of the alkaline lifestyle is to provide a non-acidic body which would improve one’s pH levels and help us achieve optimal health. Yeast is seen as an unhealthy organism, along with parasites, that live within the bloodstream and promote unhealthy bodies. The effects of some of these organisms on the body causes unexplained pains, stress, fatigue and other diseases such as cancer. Cancerous cells breed best within an acidic body.
I decided I was going to look up a bread recipe which did not contain any yeast, milk, white flour, completely healthy and in-line with the alkaline lifestyle. It was very difficult to find a recipe as such but I eventually found one I liked. With a few alterations, I was able to come up with my own recipe and below is how I did it.
Ingredients
4 cups spelt flour
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/2 tablespoon blackstrap molasses
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 cups of almond milk
Instructions
Preheat oven to 180°C.
Line a loaf tin with greaseproof paper and grease the paper with some extra virgin olive oil.
In a bowl, combine the spelt flour with the molasses, 2/3 of the sesame seeds, baking powder and almond milk. Mix well.
Put the dough in the loaf tin and bake in the oven and sprinkle the remainder of the sesame seeds on top.
Bake for 1 hour or until finished. You can always test using a wooden skewer.
This bread is best served warm with cashew or almond butter.
Happy baking.
