Ever since I started taking care of my natural hair, I decided that I would make my own hair and body butters. I love Palmer’s cocoa butter but from the day I smelt real cocoa butter, I realised that there had to be something ‘different’ about that £3.99 tub I used to buy. Real cocoa butter smells like chocolate and is rock hard. My usual body butter is cocoa and shea butter but today I felt I needed to finish some leftover avocado butter that I’ve had for absolutely ages. I settled on avocado body lotion which could double up as a hair cream too.

Here’s how I made this.
Ingredients
3/4 cup avocado butter
1/2 cup sweet almond oil
1 tbsp castor oil
1/2 cup cocoa butter pieces
1 tbsp jojoba oil
1 tbsp grapeseed oil
2 drops lavender essential oil
Instructions
Measure and place all ingredients in a bowl. Use a bain-marie (double boiler) so that the cocoa butter pieces can melt. A bain-marie is a bowl with boiling water that another shallow bowl sits in so that the oils can melt slowly. Stir all the melted oils and refrigerate for 15 mins. Blend the solidified mixture using a hand mixer. It’s that simple.

I found this mix light and of lotion-y consistency which really is what I wanted. The only con I found was that the avocado butter made the mix slightly grainy. Will use shea butter next time.
Happy mixing!
